1. Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to establish a fair and transparent framework governing the retirement benefits of teachers serving at Madinatul Uloom Madrasa & Orphanage. This policy recognises the dedication and long-term service of teachers and provides a structured system through which teachers may receive financial support and recognition upon retirement.

2. Eligibility for Retirement Benefits

To qualify for full retirement benefits, a teacher must:

  • Complete at least fifteen (15) years of continuous service at the madrasa.
  • Maintain good professional standing and comply with institutional policies during their tenure.
  • Participate consistently in the Teacher Retirement Contribution Program described in this policy.

Teachers who serve less than 15 years will not be eligible for full retirement benefits as defined in this policy.

3. Teacher Retirement Contribution Program

The madrasa may operate a voluntary Teacher Retirement Contribution Program for teachers. Under this programme:

  • A teacher may contribute a monthly amount ranging from 1 BDT to 500 BDT.
  • The madrasa will match the same amount contributed by the teacher each month.
  • Contributions should be consistent and continuous without interruption.

Both the teacher’s contribution and the madrasa’s matching contribution will be recorded and maintained by the institution.

4. Contribution Conditions

To qualify for the matching benefit under this programme:

  • Contributions must be made regularly and on time, without gaps.
  • Contributions will be collected and recorded through the madrasa’s cash accounting system or official register.
  • All contributions will be documented and verified by the Treasurer or authorised financial officer.

Any significant interruption or irregularity in contributions may affect eligibility for full retirement benefits or the matching contribution.

5. Retirement Benefits

Teachers who complete 15 years or more of continuous service and participate consistently in the contribution programme will receive, upon retirement:

  • The total accumulated contributions made by the teacher;
  • The matching contributions made by the madrasa; and
  • Any approved retirement appreciation or recognition determined by the administration (such as a one-time honorarium, where feasible).

6. Partial Service Retirement

If a teacher leaves the madrasa before completing 15 years of service:

  • The teacher will receive only the original amount contributed by the teacher to the retirement programme.
  • The madrasa’s matching contribution will not be paid as a retirement benefit in such cases.

7. Retirement Recognition

Teachers who complete long-term service at the madrasa may also receive non-financial recognition, such as:

  • Certificate of appreciation for years of service.
  • Public recognition at a madrasa event or gathering.
  • Special honour or retirement ceremony, where appropriate.

These recognitions reflect the madrasa’s gratitude for the teacher’s effort, sacrifice, and contributions to the students and institution.

8. Administration and Record Keeping

The madrasa administration will maintain accurate records of:

  • Teacher service duration and starting/ending dates.
  • Monthly retirement contributions and dates.
  • Matching contributions made by the madrasa.
  • Retirement eligibility status and benefit calculations.

Financial records will be supervised by:

  • Treasurer.
  • Executive Director.
  • Executive Committee, with oversight from the Permanent Committee.

9. Post-Retirement Engagement

Retired teachers may continue to serve the madrasa, subject to mutual agreement and institutional needs, in roles such as:

  • Part-time or visiting teachers.
  • Guest lecturers or speakers.
  • Academic or curriculum advisors.
  • Tarbiyah mentors or spiritual guides for students.

10. Policy Review

This Teacher Retirement Policy will be reviewed periodically by the Executive Committee and Permanent Committee to ensure fairness, transparency, and alignment with the madrasa’s long-term financial sustainability and mission.

Institutional Appreciation

Madinatul Uloom Madrasa & Orphanage deeply values the dedication of its teachers. Through this retirement policy, the institution aims to honour educators who devote their lives to teaching the Qur’an and Islamic knowledge, while maintaining responsible stewardship of charitable resources and institutional funds.
