Student Discipline & Welfare Policy

A framework for student behaviour, discipline, and welfare at Madinatul Uloom Madrasa & Orphanage based on Islamic tarbiyah, Bangladesh educational practice, and international child welfare standards.

1. Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to ensure a safe, respectful, and disciplined environment where students can grow academically, spiritually, and morally. The madrasa aims to nurture students through Islamic values, compassion, discipline, and proper guidance, ensuring the overall welfare of every child.

2. Guiding Principles

Student discipline and welfare will be guided by the following principles:

  • Respect for Islamic teachings and moral conduct.
  • Compassion and patience in guiding students.
  • Protection of student dignity and rights.
  • Promotion of positive behaviour and character development.
  • Ensuring the physical and emotional well-being of every student.

3. Expected Student Behavior

All students are expected to:

  • Attend classes regularly and punctually.
  • Participate in daily congregational prayers.
  • Show respect to teachers, staff, and fellow students.
  • Maintain cleanliness and personal hygiene.
  • Follow madrasa rules and Islamic etiquette.
  • Protect madrasa property and facilities.
  • Demonstrate honesty, discipline, and good manners.

4. Classroom Discipline

In the classroom, students must:

  • Follow teacher instructions respectfully.
  • Maintain silence and focus during lessons.
  • Complete assigned tasks, homework, and memorisation work.
  • Avoid disruptive behaviour that affects others’ learning.

Teachers will promote discipline through guidance, encouragement, and positive reinforcement, in line with Islamic tarbiyah.

5. Prohibited Behavior

The following behaviours are strictly prohibited:

  • Fighting, physical aggression, or violence.
  • Bullying, harassment, or intimidation.
  • Disrespect or abusive behaviour toward teachers or staff.
  • Use of foul, abusive, or inappropriate language.
  • Damage to madrasa property or vandalism.
  • Theft, dishonesty, or cheating.
  • Possession of harmful, prohibited, or inappropriate items.

6. Disciplinary Measures

Discipline will always be handled with fairness, care, and respect for the child’s dignity. Possible actions include:

  1. Verbal warning and reminder of rules.
  2. Counselling and guidance by teacher or admin.
  3. Written warning recorded in the student file.
  4. Guardian/parent notification and meeting.
  5. Temporary suspension in serious or repeated cases.
  6. Expulsion only for severe and persistent violations, as a last resort.

Physical punishment is strictly prohibited, in line with child protection standards and Islamic ethics of mercy and justice.

7. Student Welfare and Support

The madrasa is committed to ensuring the well-being of all students, especially orphan and vulnerable children. Support includes:

  • Safe and appropriate accommodation for residential students.
  • Nutritious meals and access to clean drinking water.
  • Access to basic medical care and first aid.
  • Emotional support, care, and guidance from staff.
  • A safe, non-violent, and respectful learning environment.

8. Health and Hygiene

Students must maintain proper hygiene, including:

  • Regular bathing and personal cleanliness.
  • Wearing clean and appropriate clothing.
  • Keeping dormitory and classroom spaces tidy.
  • Observing good hygiene around toilets and washing areas.

The madrasa will ensure proper sanitation facilities and strive to maintain a clean, healthy environment.

9. Counseling and Mentorship

Teachers, wardens, and administrators will provide mentorship and guidance to students. Students facing academic, emotional, or behavioural challenges will receive appropriate support, advice, and, where possible, counselling.

10. Parent and Guardian Cooperation

Guardians and parents are expected to cooperate with the madrasa by:

  • Supporting student discipline and behaviour expectations.
  • Maintaining regular communication with teachers and administration.
  • Attending meetings and discussions when requested.
  • Encouraging students to respect madrasa rules and Islamic etiquette.

11. Safety and Protection

The madrasa will ensure the safety and protection of students through:

  • Safe dormitory supervision and monitoring.
  • Secure and well-maintained facilities.
  • Reasonable monitoring of student activities and movements.
  • Immediate response to any reported safety concern.

Any safety concern must be reported promptly to the administration or designated child protection focal person.

12. Policy Review

This Student Discipline & Welfare Policy will be reviewed periodically by the Executive Committee and Permanent Committee to ensure that student welfare and discipline standards remain effective and aligned with institutional goals, Islamic values, and relevant educational and child welfare guidelines.
