Hifz Preparation Stage Syllabus

Structured Nazira, Makharij and Tajweed programme to prepare students for full‑time Hifz with strong fluency and accuracy.

Learning Objectives

By the end of the Hifz Preparation Stage, the student should be able to:

  • Read the Qur'an fluently (Nazira) with correct Makharij and basic Tajweed rules applied consistently.
  • Maintain a stable revision cycle of previously read Ajza so that errors decrease over time.
  • Demonstrate readiness for Hifz by completing at least 1–2 Ajza with few mistakes under exam conditions.
  • Show discipline and focus needed for Hifz: punctuality, silent revision, and respect for the Hifz environment.

Syllabus Structure (Phases 1–4)

The preparation stage usually lasts 6–12 months depending on student ability. It combines daily Nazira, targeted Makharij drills and a clear revision system.

Phase 1: Fluency & Accuracy in Juz Amma (and Selected Surahs)

Strengthening reading in Juz 30 and other commonly recited surahs before expanding to full Ajza.

  • Daily reading from Juz Amma focusing on smooth joining, stopping points and correcting common errors.
  • Additional practice on frequently used surahs (e.g., Al‑Baqarah 1–5, Ayat al‑Kursi, last verses of Al‑Baqarah, Yaseen selections as per institute plan).
  • Teacher keeps an error log for each student (letters, rules, specific words).
  • Mastery: student can read Juz Amma with only occasional minor corrections (no major Makharij/Tajweed errors).

Phase 2: Makharij & Tajweed Strengthening

Focused drills on articulation points and core Tajweed rules needed for Hifz.

  • Makharij practice: throat letters, tongue letters (ق, ك, ط, د, ت, ل, ن, ر), lips and nasal sounds, with word‑level drills.
  • Key rules: Noon/Meem Saakin (Izhar, Idgham, Iqlab, Ikhfa), basic rules of Madd, Qalqalah; introduction of Ikhfa in real Qur'an context.
  • Short daily Tajweed lesson (5–10 minutes) followed by application in the day's reading.
  • Mastery: decrease in repeated Tajweed mistakes; student can explain in simple terms at least some of the rules practised.

Phase 3: Extended Nazira – 1–2 Ajza with Revision Cycle

Moving from short surahs to sustained reading of full Ajza while keeping previous portions strong.

  • Target: complete at least 1–2 Ajza (or more, as per institute standard) with careful reading and regular revision.
  • Daily schedule: new Nazira portion + revision of 2–4 pages from earlier in the same Juz or previous Juz.
  • Weekly "fluency day": full Rukoo' or half Juz reading as a test of stamina.
  • Mastery: student can read a half‑Juz or more in one sitting with accuracy and stable pace, without frequent stopping.

Phase 4: Hifz Readiness Evaluation & Exam

Formal assessment to decide if the student is ready to enter the Initial Hifz Stage.

  • Oral exam: student reads from any selected pages in the prepared Ajza (without advance notice of exact page).
  • Criteria: Makharij, Tajweed, fluency, confidence, ability to maintain focus for at least 20–30 minutes.
  • Behaviour and discipline check: punctuality record, homework/revision consistency, general Akhlaq in class.
  • Mastery: student meets minimum score on fluency test and behaviour checklist; parents/guardians are informed of readiness and expectations for Hifz.

Recommended Daily Time Allocation (Hifz Prep)

For students in the Hifz Preparation Stage (in addition to their regular Noorani / academic schedule), a typical 1–2 hour daily block may be divided as:

  • 10–15 minutes: warm‑up review of Juz Amma or previously read pages.
  • 25–40 minutes: main Nazira portion (new or consolidation reading) with correction.
  • 15–25 minutes: focused revision of earlier Ajza/pages, including "fluency day" once per week.
  • 5–10 minutes: Makharij/Tajweed drill and brief feedback on behaviour and effort.
